Taekwondo Builds Happier Children

There's plenty of solid research that proves Taekwondo training promotes better behavior and improved attitudes in school age children. Here are just a few of the most recently published studies and articles describing the benefits:

  • A 2001 study published in the psychology journal Adolescence showed a vast improvement in good behavior and a noticeable reduction in violent behavior among children who took traditional martial arts classes for just 90 minutes a week.

  • Another article published in Adolescence in 1998 described how traditional martial arts programs decrease violent behavior in children and teens.

  • A recent study published in the Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology showed that children who participated in traditional martial art training had better behavior and higher scores on a mental math test.

  • The Magazine for Physical Therapy praised traditional martial art training as a helpful activity for special needs children.

  • An article in the December 2002 issue of The International Journal of Contemporary Family Therapy recommended families take traditional martial art classes because of the many positive effects martial arts training provides to family members.

"Master Mike,  It was 10 years ago when we signed Zach up for Taekwondo.  After he received his black belt we got involved in Football and Basketball.  He has always excelled at sports and was always liked by his coaches because he listened and was a leader and I believe that all started at your school !!!!   He will play in the All Star game for Cyo football on May 13th at Lincoln Financial Field as the starting middle linebacker. That is pretty cool and I want to thank you for your hard work and dedication to all your students."

"Our daughter has been attending Eastern Defensive Arts Academy for nearly 4 years now. We have watched her grow from a shy, overly cautious little girl into a more outgoing, confident young lady. Master Mike is a rare individual in that he truly exhibits a love for what he does, which makes classes so enjoyable and beneficial for kids."

"My daughter and I recently joined Eastern Defensive Arts Academy. We are very pleased with our membership. As educators, my husband and I are very impressed with the positive reinforcement that is used in the class. Our spirited daughter really responds to this teaching style.  An exact quote after her first class: 'Mom, sign me up. I'm going to take karate forever!'

We are so glad that we listened to our friends and came to Eastern Defensive Arts Academy. What a great place to be!"

" All three of my children and I trained together for over 6 years. What a great family activity!  It is great exercise and a good outlet for stress. The ability to set goals, see them through to completion, and the sense of accomplishment are the benefits that I, as a parent, appreciate most about the program.  I often hear parents complain about how hard it is to stay connected with their teens, but I have never had that problem. Training together at Eastern Defensive Arts Academy, my kids and I had a common ground, the chance to support and encourage each other, quality family time and a whole lot of fun together. Today my kids are young adults living on their own, however I still see the values learned through Eastern Defensive Arts Academy present in their lives.  Thank you Eastern Defensive Arts Academy!"

"When my son was 8 years old, I looked up different schools. After calling Eastern Defensive Arts Academy and talking with Master Snisky, I could tell that his program and his dedication was awesome!  In December 2008 (when he was almost 13) my son advanced to junior black belt. He worked long and hard to achieve this level with lots of help from all the dedicated members who are great role models.  Thank you for being there for my child!"
